Wild & Wacky

Here's my last post for today! I'd almost forgotten about this one, but it's another one of those rare birthday cakes I do. This was another one where I got to choose what to do, and how to do it! And since I couldn't decide right off, I kind of just started and went along without a real plan in my head. This is what I ended up with. Pretty wild and wacky, but I liked it when all was said and done!

Fall Fun

The Bridal Faire was held at the end of September. (I know, I'm pathetic about getting things posted!) It's always fun, but also challenging to decide on a cake that I want to do! It's always easier for me to meet with someone and pick their brain and use their ideas to create a cake. It's much harder when I'm the only one to consult with! I have so, SO many ideas floating around in my head that it's always hard to pick just ONE! But this year, I decided on doing something I've seen before (in pictures only, however, never up close and personal!) but never done. But I definitely wanted a fall theme, so this is what I came up with. How do you like it?

Brown Squigglies

Yes, I guess that's how you'd describe this one! You could also say, "labor intensive" and "sore, tired hand!" Any of those would also describe it! But I'd have to say the finished product was worth it.

Simple Elegance

When I met with this couple for their consultation, the groom CLAIMED that he didn't really care about the specifics, the one thing he DID want was 5 layers. However, as we discussed things, he ACTUALLY cared about, and had an opinion about EVERYTHING! And the funny thing was that it almost always seemed to be DIFFERENT than the brides! She made the comment at one point, "Honey, we're just on opposite ends of the spectrum on this one!" It took about an hour and a half, but we finally met on some common ground and decided on a cake design that seemed to meet both of their expectations. The ribbon was an eggplant color with just a hint of sparkles on it. I loved it, and thought the cake turned out pretty well. I never got to hear the couples opinion of it - I hope they liked it!

Sunset Cake

The colors of this cake just remind me of a sunset, so I guess I'll call it my sunset cake. I got the chance to work with a florist on this one that I've never worked with before. We kind of worked on the flowers together (though she did the bulk of the work!) but it's always fun to meet a new friend. The fact that she did such a great job was an added bonus!

Fun Birthday cake

I don't get the chance to do birthday cakes very often, but I did get a chance a few weeks ago to do a fun one. It was for what I thought was a celebration of a 50th birthday. The funny thing was, after the kids picked it up, they showed up at my house about 20 minutes later and said it was really their dad's 60th, not his 50th! Ha ha! This was for a surprise party, and they only had about 20 minutes before the party was to start, so I had to scramble BIG TIME (and FAST!!) to make some alterations on the 5 to make it a 6! But it turned out ok! Fun times!
